Google announced that by September 2020 mobile first indexing will become the default behavior for all sites.
Today, most people are searching on Google using a mobile device. However, our ranking systems still typically look at the desktop version of a page’s content to evaluate its relevance to the user. This can cause issues when the mobile page has less content than the desktop page because our algorithms are not evaluating the actual page that is seen by a mobile searcher.
Make sure your site is optimized and ready for mobile first indexing, by following the steps below.
- Use Google robots.txt testing tool to confirm your site runs a mobile version and that it is accessible to Googlebot.
Google Search Console
Go to ‘Mobile Usability’, see if you have any Errors.
Don’t underestimate this change, follow the steps above and make sure your site is ready.
